November 1st at Blizzcon 2019, Blizzard released the news of the development of a new sequel and add on to the overwatch universe: Overwatch 2. A whole new cinematic showcasing new unseen lore of Heroes post recall was released announcing the new game with a bang.
The game looks to focus on PvE with gameplay similar to that of Overwatch (1)'s event arcade modes like Uprising, Retribution and Storm rising from the Archives Event.
New Game Play
Overwatch 2 is primarily going to consist of three new Co-op game modes. Two PvE and one PvP.
Story missions: Where players can, in blizzard's own words, "team up as different sets of heroes and fight to defend the world from the omnic forces of Null Sector, uncover the motives behind the robotic armies’ attacks, and come face-to-face with rising new threats around the globe." The mode also shows a new mechanic in pick up items. Items which players can acquire and be used at will. Examples such as a HP generator, corrosive grenades, and a barrier shield have been shown in the demos. Although these items won't carry over from mission to mission.
Hero missions: Are a similar game mode designed with a more replayable nature in mind. Here players will be able to level up their characters and unlock new abilities and play styles. This will allow players to build characters in the way they like to play.
Pushmode: Going back to its roots this game mode is PvP. Two teams fight to control a robot who pushes two barriers across the map. Whoever pushes the enemy's block further into their territory wins. Aaron Keller, the assistant game director, says the mode is 'really flanky' with the new maps encouraging this kind of gameplay with lots of back routes and cut-throughs.
The game plans bring not only new, unique gameplay but also an overhaul of the original game's graphics to better match its sequel; so any player of the original game will reap the benefits of the new game even if they choose not to buy a copy. New maps and heroes will continue to be developed and released in both games side by side.
Dedicated fans of the original game will also see their hard-won skins, emotes, player icons and sprays carried across to the new game.
